Design Innovation and Model Simulation of Below Knee Prosthesis with Thread-Based Adjustable Shanks

The article explores the development of a below-knee prosthetic with adjustable shanks based on threads, aiming to accommodate the diverse anthropometric range of Indonesian bodies. Through design simulations, the shank’s capacity to withstand 2000N loads and its adjustable height in 1.5 mm increments are demonstrated. Published in the “Journal of Science and Technology,” the study underscores the necessity for such prosthetic innovations to address the increasing number of disabled individuals in Indonesia, particularly those facing challenges in walking and climbing stairs. The design’s potential to be manufactured is substantiated through model production, offering a promising solution to the scarcity of standardized prosthetics in the country.

The Utilization of Bamboo for Wood Bamboo Composite in Lieu of Materials Furniture: Case Study of Furniture Industry in Jepara Indonesia

The research study explores the potential of utilizing bamboo as a substitute for wood in the furniture industry, with a focus on Jepara, Indonesia, known for its large furniture manufacturing sector. Published in the World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology International Journal of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, the study proposes the development of wood bamboo composite as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional wood materials. By harvesting bamboo and processing it into bamboo fiber sheets, which are then combined with a polyester matrix through pressing, the industry can create composite boards suitable for furniture production. This approach not only addresses the increasing demand for wood and the consequent deforestation but also contributes to environmental sustainability by offering a faster-growing and more readily available alternative material. This sustainable approach also not only addresses the dwindling supply of wood but also contributes to mitigating environmental issues such as deforestation and global warming.
